Chunky Knitting in Your Language: Gigante Goes Global

Gigante now speaks seven languages. English, Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese and Korean. The whole website, every pattern you download from it, and the video masterclass. Tap the little flag at the top of any page and pick yours.
Why seven languages
When I started Gigante I made a promise: to make chunky knitting properly popular. Not a hobby only for people who already knit, or something expensive and out of reach for most people. Something anyone can pick up, finger knit or needle knit, and wear a week later.
You can’t keep that promise in one language. Most people who would love a giant cardigan don’t read English first. Now they don’t have to. That’s big knitting for everyone, which was always the point.
What’s translated
The website. Every page, button, size guide and checkout step.
Your patterns. Download any pattern from the website and it arrives in the language you’re reading in. Instructions, chart labels, glossary, the lot. Japanese and Korean patterns print in proper Japanese and Korean lettering.
The masterclass. The 43-minute video now has dubbed audio in German, French, Italian, Portuguese and Japanese, with subtitles to match. Switch the website’s language and the video follows.
The blog, soon. These journal posts are still in English for now, this one included. We’re translating them next, and they should follow very soon.
Names stay as they are. Tide is Tide in Tokyo. Blue Fairy is Blue Fairy in Berlin.
Same wool, same patterns. Now in your words.
One line, seven ways
Chunky knitting gets the same reaction in every country. So here it is, the way people will say it to you:

And for our friends in America: yes, it’s really that big. And yes, the website now says “color”.
Portuguese is my first language, so I checked that one word by word myself. If a line in any of the others reads oddly, tell me at info@giganteknits.com and I’ll fix it.
Centimetres, inches and money
Sizes and wool show in centimetres and grams. In the US the website switches to inches, ounces and pounds on its own, and shows a rough dollar price next to each price, at today’s exchange rate. There’s a cm / in switch at the bottom of every page if you’d rather choose.
Prices follow your language too. Read the website in Portuguese and you see reais. In Spanish, Italian or German, euros. In Japanese, yen. In Korean, won. All at today’s exchange rate. We still charge in British pounds, so your basket shows the exact amount in pounds, and your bank converts it.
